Commuter Expense Reimbursement Account (CERA)

A Commuter Expense Reimbursement Account (CERA) through Optum Financial allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars from your paycheck to use for eligible commuting and parking expenses.

Key Highlights

  • Pre-tax contributions up to the IRS monthly maximum can be made for mass transit and parking expenses; contributions above the IRS maximum will be deducted on a post-tax basis
  • Online account management
  • You can change or cancel elections month to month by the pre-determined cutoff date

Eligible Expenses

Mass Transit

  • Public transit services such as bus, light rail, regional rail, streetcar, trolley, subway, ferry fares or vanpool

Parking

  • Parking at or near your work location
  • Parking at or near public transportation used for your commute

Beneficiary Designation

It is important to designate beneficiaries for your 401(k) and life insurance in the event of your death. For 401(k), visit the Merrill website and for life insurance go to the MetLife website to designate your beneficiaries.
